HOW TO REFRESH TABLE LIST IN RAZORSQL CODE This. This article describes how to use Microsoft WebMatrix tools to create a database in an ASP.NET Web Pages (Razor) website, and how to create pages that let you display, add, edit, and delete data. How to insert, update, and delete database records.Working with a Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition database. These are the features introduced in the article: This tutorial also works with WebMatrix 3. You can use ASP.NET Web Pages 3 and Visual Studio 2013 (or Visual Studio Express 2013 for Web) however, the user interface will be different. For each entry in the address book (that is, for each person) you have several pieces of information such as first name, last name, address, email address, and phone number.Ī typical way to picture data like this is as a table with rows and columns. In database terms, each row is often referred to as a record. Each column (sometimes referred to as fields) contains a value for each type of data: first name, last name, and so on. IDįor most database tables, the table has to have a column that contains a unique identifier, like a customer number, account number, etc. This is known as the table's primary key, and you use it to identify each row in the table. In the example, the ID column is the primary key for the address book. With this basic understanding of databases, you're ready to learn how to create a simple database and perform operations such as adding, modifying, and deleting data. You can store data in lots of ways, including text files and spreadsheets. For most business uses, though, data is stored in a relational database. This article doesn't go very deeply into databases. However, you might find it useful to understand a little about them. In a relational database, information is logically divided into separate tables. For example, a database for a school might contain separate tables for students and for class offerings. The database software (such as SQL Server) supports powerful commands that let you dynamically establish relationships between the tables. HOW TO REFRESH TABLE LIST IN RAZORSQL SOFTWARE For example, you can use the relational database to establish a logical relationship between students and classes in order to create a schedule. Storing data in separate tables reduces the complexity of the table structure and reduces the need to keep redundant data in tables. This procedure shows you how to create a database named SmallBakery by using the SQL Server Compact Database design tool that's included in WebMatrix. HOW TO REFRESH TABLE LIST IN RAZORSQL HOW TO Although you can create a database using code, it's more typical to create the database and database tables using a design tool like WebMatrix. Start WebMatrix, and on the Quick Start page, click Site From Template. Select Empty Site, and in the Site Name box enter "SmallBakery" and then click OK. The site is created and displayed in WebMatrix. In the left pane, click the Databases workspace. An empty database is created with the same name as your site. In the left pane, expand the SmallBakery.sdf node and then click Tables. Set the Is Primary Key? and Is Identify? options to Yes.Īs the name suggests, Is Primary Key tells the database that this will be the table's primary key. Is Identity tells the database to automatically create an ID number for every new record and to assign it the next sequential number (starting at 1).Ĭlick in the next row. The editor starts a new column definition.įor Data Type, choose "nvarchar" and set the length to 50. Obsidian cores and blades were traded great distances inland from the coast. Similar tracing techniques have allowed obsidian to be identified in Greece also as coming from Melos, Nisyros or Yiali, islands in the Aegean Sea. Each volcano and in some cases each volcanic eruption produces a distinguishable type of obsidian, making it possible for archaeologists to trace the origins of a particular artifact. Native American people traded obsidian throughout the Americas. Called a macuahuitl, the weapon was capable of inflicting terrible injuries, combining the sharp cutting edge of an obsidian blade with the ragged cut of a serrated weapon. Mesoamericans also made a type of sword with obsidian blades mounted in a wooden body. Pre-Columbian Mesoamericans’ use of obsidian was extensive and sophisticated including carved and worked obsidian for tools and decorative objects. Another example is the archeological recovery at coastal Chumash sites in California indicating considerable trade with the distant site of Casa Diablo, California in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This is the case in Yaxchilán, a Maya city where even warfare implications have been studied linked with obsidian use and its debris. A careful analysis of obsidian in a culture or place can be of considerable use to reconstruct commerce, production, distribution and thereby understand economic, social and political aspects of a civilization. Lithic analysis can be instrumental in understanding prehispanic groups in Mesoamerica. The first attested civilized use is from excavations at Tell Brak dated the late fifth millennia. Use of obsidian in pottery of the Neolithic in the area around Lipari was found to be significantly less at a distance representing two weeks journeying.Īnatolian sources of obsidian are known to have been the material used in the Levant and modern-day Iraqi Kurdistan from a time beginning sometime about 12,500 BC. The first archaeological evidence known of usage were made from within Kariandusi and other sites of the Acheulian age (beginning 1.5 million years previously) dated 700,000 BC, although the number of objects found at these sites were very low relative to the Neolithic. Acigöl town and the Göllü Dað volcano were the most important sources in central Anatolia, one of the more important source areas in prehistoric Near East. Ancient sources in the Aegean were Melos and Giali. There are only four major deposit areas in the central Mediterranean: Lipari, Pantelleria, Palmarola and Monte Arci. states of Virginia, as well as Pennsylvania. Obsidian can also be found in the eastern U.S. states including Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Yellowstone National Park has a mountainside containing obsidian located between Mammoth Hot Springs and the Norris Geyser Basin, and deposits can be found in many other western U.S. Obsidian flows which may be hiked on are found within the calderas of Newberry Volcano and Medicine Lake Volcano in the Cascade Range of western North America, and at Inyo Craters east of the Sierra Nevada in California. It can be found in Argentina,Armenia, Azerbaijan, Canada, Chile, Georgia, Greece, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Scotland, Turkey and the United States. Obsidian can be found in locations which have experienced rhyolitic eruptions. Pig carved in snowflake obsidian, 10 centimeters (4 in) long. This breakdown of obsidian is accelerated by the presence of water. Because obsidian is metastable at the Earth’s surface (over time the glass becomes fine-grained mineral crystals), no obsidian has been found that is older than Cretaceous age. Crystalline rocks with obsidian’s composition include granite and rhyolite. Obsidian consists mainly of SiO2 (silicon dioxide), usually 70% or more. Though obsidian is usually dark in color similar to mafic rocks such as basalt, obsidian’s composition is extremely felsic. It is sometimes classified as a mineraloid. Obsidian is mineral-like, but not a true mineral because as a glass it is not crystalline in addition, its composition is too complex to comprise a single mineral. Tektites were once thought by many to be obsidian produced by lunar volcanic eruptions, though few scientists now adhere to this hypothesis. Having a low water content when newly formed typically less than 1% water by weight, becomes progressively hydrated when exposed to groundwater, forming perlite. Obsidian is the rock formed as a result of cooled lava, which is the parent material. ![]() A baroque cabochon of iridescent “rainbow obsidian”. ![]() Press the “Select File” option to upload the desired file from your computer.Namely, you can use, and this is how to do so: If you want to avoid installing VLC or any other software, there’s a reliable way to do it. I want to talk about Justin and Simon’s first kiss forever! - including the doomed one between Mike (an out-of-work auto-factory worker trying to win his wife back) and Paula (a onetime HR executive with breast cancer). There are certainly moments and story lines that could use some breathing room for a more profound payoff, but mostly, thanks to some really dialed-in performances and writing that doesn’t waste too much time on exposition, it’s easy to get emotionally invested. With only 11 episodes in the first season, The Big Leap sometimes feels like it is moving at warp speed. The “getting married before the bride dies” wedding between two characters who only met eight episodes prior And, yes, sure, I might be trying to download this version of the song. Like, obviously when two cast members aren’t getting along, they’re going to have a dance-off to Ludacris’s “Move Bitch” to see which one can stay on the show, and obviously “there’s a shaman in transpo” who is going to give tightly wound choreographer and executive producer Monica mushrooms, and she’s going to have a vision of how to save Swan Lake, and that vision is this hip-hop ballet. There are many things that happen on this show that sound insane on paper, but the trick is that the context around those moments is done so well that, for the most part, you’re already too swept up to question it. I love every single word in that sentence, and if you watched The Big Leap, you would too. Obviously there’s going to be a dance-off, and obviously it will be … like this. The hip-hop ballet set to the orchestral version of “Move Bitch” that takes place in a ’shroom-induced fantasy If you’re not into this show at that point, you probably won’t be into this show. And it’s gorgeous! And Gabby cries because she feels free. It all culminates in their actual audition, in which Reggie wants to really wow everybody with a lift, but Gabby’s dealing with self-esteem issues after years of being told she’s too big to be a dancer. But once they’re in a room together dancing, it’s easy to forget that minor plot issue. Do I fully believe Reggie would be so easily persuaded to let Gabby teach him choreography so they can both get on the show? Not really. ![]() So much of buying this show rests on buying the chemistry in this first episode between Gabby, a single mother whose unexpected pregnancy derailed her dance dreams, and Reggie, the disgraced NFL player looking for redemption. The Big Leap not only has to lay out its very ambitious tone, but it also has to introduce the show within the show and an eclectic ensemble cast of characters that we need to care about. So much of buying this show rests on buying the chemistry between Gabby and Reggie, and they make it easy from the get-go.Ī pilot episode has so many things to accomplish, and a pilot episode for a dramedy about a fictional dance reality show has an extra-long to-do list. Let’s review the highlights of the just-wrapped first season. It takes some big leaps, if you will, and sticks the landing. There are several elements in season one that seem risky - whether they’re plot points, character arcs, or, you know, bringing flash mobs back - but the show manages to pull it all off. ![]() For a broadcast show, it makes some ambitious moves and doesn’t seem afraid to be unabashedly itself. There are several great performances going on that add some surprising depth to characters that could easily be one-note, led by Scott Foley, who seems to be having the most fun as Nick Blackburn, the outwardly cynical executive producer of the show who is, deep down (way, way deep down), a softy. Get on board!) The dancing can be extremely moving. (Of course there is cheese, people - it’s a dance show about second chances. It balances the cheese and the comedy well. Juggling those typically disparate tones, a huge ensemble cast, the show-within-a-show framework, and, yes, all the dancing could easily result in a train wreck, but The Big Leap makes it work. It’s an uplifting series about people looking for second chances in life and love, and it’s a cynical, biting send-up of reality TV. It’s a broadcast dramedy about a dance reality show that takes a group of everyday people in Detroit and puts them into a 20-person company to perform Swan Lake. ![]() The Big Leap seems like a show that shouldn’t work. This absolutely should not work, and yet … It used to be that when you made a deck it was for sharing on a projector or on a laptop screen only. Part of what we learned along the way is that there’s this huge opportunity to change the way people share this kind of story. We built a prototype and after two weeks of talking to customers it became clear that they wanted to look at a presentation on an iPhone but the idea of sitting on a bus and trying to tap out a deck, that was not something that resonated with customers. We first started on the iPhone, mostly because that’s where the most people were. Talk me through that decision process to launch first on the iPad? “It was a little bit of trial and error. ![]() You guys are doing something completely different, you’re launching first on the iPad. Then maybe three years ago they would’ve created a web application. This intrigued me in part because back 10-15 years ago someone would try and compete with PowerPoint by creating a piece of software. ![]() We were a little nervous that people were going to freak out about that but we haven’t had a single complaint yet!” We actually don’t have a bullet point feature in the app. So what about my 30 bullet points per slide? Are you telling me that’s not good practice? “I hate to break it to you, but if people are reading your slides they’re not listening to your words. This notion of one idea per slide and consistent look and feel, so that in the end you create a flawlessly beautiful deck.” In addition to that, we’re deploying best practices from presentation experts. You type your words into Haiku Deck and we go out and find beautiful creative commons imagery that match your words. What we wanted to do was bring a fresh set of eyes and new thinking to the experience. I say this from a position of authority only because I was an Office product manager 18 years ago. Not enough has changed since the advent of mobile and tablet computing, or the interent even. ![]() What we say was that the whole category for presentations was ripe for an overhaul. It’s a presentation tool for creating beautiful decks. You’re essentially trying replace PowerPoint in some ways but in a much sexier, cooler way right? What is Haiku Deck? “It’s a tool for communicating. I’m really proud of the team, they did an awesome job making an awesome app.” It’s more like qualifying for the Olympics than it is like winning a medal because now we have to live up to the expectations of geting lots of downloads. I feel like I’m interviewing someone after a big baseball game! How does it feel? “It feels good to know that we’re there…I’m a little terrified frankly. Getting featured is a big deal and we just found out that we’re featured on the homepage of New and Noteworthy for iTunes. Specifically in iTunes it’s difficult because the window into the ocean of apps is so small. It’s tough for a number of reasons, not the least of which is getting distribution and getting noticed. How about you share what that is? “So the app business is notoriously tough. So, you just found out something really really cool about your app. If you missed the show, or just prefer text, here are edited highlights from the conversation. We invited Adam Tratt, founder and CEO of Giant Thinkwell, to be on the GeekWire podcast last week to chat about how Haiku Deck is different, where they see the presentation market going, and even how they might stack up against Microsoft’s PowerPoint. They were also one of the few startups that Valley celeb Robert Scoble interviewed while in town. We covered the team of three - Adam Tratt, Kevin Leneway, and Marc Kamaka - and the launch of their iPad-based presentation tool earlier this month. ![]() Giant Thinkwell’s latest product, Haiku Deck, has been getting quite a bit of attention over the last few weeks. ![]() It’s not a full snap-on tool box, but it does have the basics of what I might need in the case of an emergency. Also, in the prepare factor, I purchased an entire tool set that I leave in the trailer. We also put together a first aid kit that we leave in the trailer all the time. Anything to make the loading go quicker and stuff you’ll probably forget in the heat of the moment trying to leave. Toiletries are the same way, extra toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, aspirin, shampoo and bodywash, all that good stuff. I keep a pile of clothes in there - also, socks, shorts, t-shirts, stuff like that. A trip to IKEA, Walmart or even the dollar store will outfit your rig and you’re not schlepping that stuff to and from the house every time you want to leave. We also have sheets and towels that stay in the trailer. Plates, flatware, glasses, mugs, seasonings, cooking pots and pans and utensils - it all stays in there. We also stocked the trailer with items that we can leave in the trailer all the time so it is ready to go and makes loading up less of a chore. Trying to cool down a loaded fridge takes more time and you don’t want your food thawing in the meantime. ![]() I will generally start cooling the fridge a few days in advance so it is nice and cold before we start loading it. I don’t feel like this isn’t going to make a huge difference in towing MPG, and I like the prepare factor. I also generally fill my fresh water tank just in case we have to stop somewhere random and don’t have the water tanks filled. Some of the easy things to prepare are making sure your propane is topped off and that your batteries are topped off. We also keep a notepad in the trailer so we can add things we would like to bring on the next trip to it. Even with a list I still forgot a few things. I must admit, leading up to the last few days of packing and preparing, you will forget almost everything if you didn’t have a list. Write it all down you can decide on what to bring later. We kept a notepad in the garage and one in the kitchen while we prepare for our trip to write items I might need or want to bring along. Random thoughts will enter you mind at all hours of the day. It is more than enough to pull the trailer from most situations, but even I caution on the conservative side of what the surroundings and the weather forecast looks like. Never over-estimate the towing ability of your vehicle. It’s great to park next to a stream or lake, but the ground is typically sand or dirt which can quickly swallow up wheels in heavy downpours. We have found some great spots, but question the ability of our Airstream to make it down, or worse, not be able to get back out.Īlso, always check the weather beforehand and make sure the campsite you are staying at is not going to be a swamp after a long night of rain and your trailer sinks in the ground making it hard to pull out. Not a great way to spend your precious time away. The last thing you want to do is get stuck somewhere. What’s the saying, ”an ounce of prevention beats a mile of backing up your trailer from a road with no turn around” or something like that. If you don’t have bikes, take a nice walk. So, here is a pretty good list of what we do and how we prepare for our off grid camping.įirst and foremost, the number one thing you want to do before you go hauling your trailer or RV down a unknown road is CHECK IT OUT FIRST! We typically keep our bikes handy in the back of the truck so we can go scout out the road beforehand. Staying in our Airstream at a vineyard as part of the Harvest Hosts programīut, like with all parts of life, there are rules and things you must take into account before heading off into the wilderness with your recreational vehicle. You can read about some of these in the other section of this blog, such as when we stayed at a winery in the north Georgia mountains, stayed at a Wisconsin goat dairy farm, or stayed at an alpaca ranch in Colorado - all of whom were members of Harvest Hosts. We have also had great experiences with Harvest Hosts. We have been roaming the country and have found several great spots mostly on or. Mother and baby mule deer outside our Airstream’s window as we boondocked near the Grand Teton National ParkĪnd while we have stayed in a few Walmarts and some Cracker Barrels, it’s typically noisy and I’m always a little on edge of who is roaming around looking at the stuff in the back of the truck at 3am. Big class A motorhomes with idling diesel engines at 6am stinks. But, sitting in a parking lot with 50 of your closest recreational vehicle (RV) friends milling about looking in your trailer at every opportunity gets kinda old. Running the AC or heater without a care for what our battery levels are at. ![]() Long hot showers without worrying about that gray tank filling up. Not that full hookups aren’t great on occasion.
